11.08.07 Amble FC opened the 2007 - 2008 season in style

Amble FC opened the 2007 - 2008 season in style with a home win over Newcastle BT. The homeside included three debutantes in their line-up and manager Ryan Jobson was pleased with the performance and the resulting three points. "It's good to start the campaign with points on the board but one match doesn't make a season. We've now got tough away games and cup fixtures to encounter and today's result will help boost confidence.

"I'm especially pleased with the young players who made their debuts such as David Hansen, Declan Armstrong, Nicky Dunn and Robert Baker slotting into midfield for only his second game at this level. We had a very young team out today with eleven of the sixteen players being teenagers and they'll benefit from the experience, " he said.

The homeside fell behind in the opening minutes when David Thompson headed home from close range. Amble rallied back and levelled the scores two minutes later when Billy Eastway chipped the visiting keeper from 25yards. Chris Connor put the homeside ahead after 15minutes play following a brilliant run by Eastway, and the same combination extended the lead in the 25th minute when Connor followed-up to score from close range.

The homeside dominated the midfield with Paul Nisbet and Shaun Jobson combining well with Alex Potts and Baker. Amble almost extended the lead with an Eastway effort and Ben Davidson had two opportunities saved by the keeper. BT attempted to get back into the game but were denied a second goal when Baker cleared the ball off the line.

The second half began with the visitors increasing the tempo but good tackling by Andy Timson, Charles Towers, Michel Straker and Connor kept the visitors at bay. Amble scored a fourth goal when Connor crossed the ball for Jobson to run through and volley home on the hour mark. Home keeper Hansen made an impressive debut and produced a top corner save to deny Thompson a second goal after 65 minutes. The final fifteen minutes saw the homeside push forward and added  a further four goals to the scoreline. Good build-up play allowed Armstrong to head the ball through for Davidson to run on and strike from outside the box for Amble's fifth.

Teenager Nicky Dunn got onto the score sheet seconds after his introduction playing a one-two with Nick Moore and then proceeded to dribble past four defenders and blast the ball into the net. The homeside piled on the pressure and Moore was brought down in the box in the 87th minute and Davidson converted the penalty for Amble's seventh goal. In the final minute, Dunn was also brought down in the box after another brilliant dribble and Davidson grabbed his hatrick and the homeside's eighth goal from the penalty spot.

Amble FC: Hansen, Timson, Towers, Connor, Straker, S Jobson, Baker (Armstrong)  Nisbet, Potts (Moore)  B Eastway (Dunn)  Davidson Subs Wilkinson, Taylor.
