Amble Res 3 - 1 Ellington

Last season's Third Division Champions Amble Reserves opened the new season with a fixture against runners-up, Ellington. Previous games between both clubs have been extremely close with few clear chances being backed-up by impressive defensive performances. The homeside almost scored when Shaun Jobson drilled a left foot shot past the post in the opening minutes. Amble keeper Charles Towers produced a tremendous fingertip saver to keep the scores level after 20 minutes.

Robert Baker had a powerful strike just wide at the start of the second-half as Amble gained momentum and opened the scoring after 55 minutes when Jobson turned and curled a 25yard curling shot into the top corner of the net. The homeside extended the lead two minutes later when Jobson lobbed his defender and was brought down in the box clean in front off goal. Striker David Whenray opened his account by converting the resulting penalty.

Andy Timson had a powerful shot brilliantly tipped round the post as the homeside pressed forward and had several chances to increase the scoreline. Whenray grabbed his brace in the 90th minute with a fine individual goal by outpacing the defence and rounding the keeper to score Amble's third. Ellington scored a late consolation goal deep into added time when the ball was adjudged to have crossed the line.
