Amble FC welcomed neighbours United to a midweek feature that saw the first derby game between two Amble-based teams for seven years. The fixture was played in front of a large crowd that saw Utd take all three points and maintain their run of good form. United had the first opportunity to open the scoring when a superb cross by Stephen Gibbard should have resulted in an early goal. Amble striker Richard Bell had two half chances at the other end but Utd pressed forward and Shaun Black powered a tremendous shot against the crossbar. Timmy Muter and Dan Patten made his first starts of the season for the homeside with Patten and Robert Baker moving out of defence onto both flanks. Utd opened the scoring following a corner when Gibbard hit a looping shot on the turn into the top corner after 14 minutes play. The second half saw a Muter effort saved by Utd keeper Ross Stewart and Shaun Jobson cleared off the line for the homeside. Amble's best move of the game saw Paul Nisbet open-up the Utd defence for Baker to deliver a threatening cross for Bell. Gibbard powered his way through the homeside defence and should have extended the lead but shot wide after 60 minutes. The visitors extended the scoreline after 75 minutes following a cross on the right-hand side and a Ross Gair shot deflected off Jobson's knee past keeper David Hansen. Jobson delivered a series of freekicks that forced the visitors to defend well and Bell fired a 25yard free kick just round the corner of post and crossbar. Amble manager Ryan Jobson commented that the game reflected the town's passion for football. "This was a typical derby fixture and Utd had the best opportunities to score and took their chances. We didn't create enough opportunities tonight but I'm hoping to have a more setlled squad soon with Craig Jones, Billy Eastway and striker Ben Davidson all available in the next few weeks," he said.
